As I sit here with damp hair attempting to dry itself, while drinking some warm (bad) Pepsi, and devouring appetizing tortilla chips, I feel like discussing the band that caught my attention on the radio the other day, which is none other than the tremendous trio that make up the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I starting liking this band ever since I heard Maps play on the radio a couple of times as well as Gold Lion. I looked into the Yeah Yeah Yeahs more and personally fell for their majestic symphonies from there on.
If you've figured it out already, this band is an alternative rock and indie rock group, and sometimes throws in a few dance numbers as well as reflecting songs to. The lead singer Karen O (Karen Orzolek) and drummer Brian Chase first met in Ohio in the '90's and had become good friends, she then left and transferred to New York University. While in New York, she got acquainted with guitarist, Nick Zinner. Then Chase applied for the band when the former drummer backed down, and has been promising ever since.
I feel bad that no one ever wants to talk about the other roles of a band, like the drummer, bass man, or the "other guitarist"; well you could learn a lot of neat things about a band if you looked into their frame more. I love how the drummer, Brian Chase, carries a unique personality while promoting an adventurous attitude toward the bands music. I've recently just learned that he has synaesthesia, which means that he sees colours corresponding to the music he plays and hears. The bands guitarist, Nick Zinner, is a vegetarian and is involved with the animal rights group PETA; and has been influenced by bands such as Mötley Crüe and Glenn Danzig from listening to excessive metal growing up.
Their self titled debut EP released in 2001, was loved by new coming fans mainly because of the song Art Star which became popular because of its mixed emotions and brash lyrics, that I think is worth listening to, and following the catchy "doo-doo-de-doo"s in between. In 2003, they released their first full album Fever To Tell which drew more attention than ever because of the hit singles Maps, Date With The Night, and Y-Control. The song Maps expresses the relationship between Liars frontman, Andrew Angus, and Karen O and has been featured in the popular video game series Rock Band along with Date With The Night. Fever To Tell was also nominated for "Best Alternative Album of 2004".
Their next album Show Your Bones was released in early 2006, where Gold Lion and Cheated Hearts became the highlights of the album, while being nominated for "Best Alternative Album of 2007". Their Is Is EP followed up on Fever To Tell and was released a few months later, including 5 previously unreleased songs that were made in 2004 but were only heard at live shows during their Fever To Tell Tour.
Their latest album It's Blitz! was released a couple a weeks ago, but was actually supposed to be released a couple of days ago due to a leak on the Internet. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs took a unique approach on their latest album by surprising fans with a different change in tone by delivering soft, reflecting songs that maintain the same Yeah Yeah Yeahs music (supposedly). While Zero being their hit single for the past weeks, some other songs I'd highly recommend worth listening to would be Heads Will Roll, Skeletons, Soft Shock, and Dull Life; but there's still other songs on the album worth exploring.
From a 2000's garage band trio to a legendary sensation today, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have certainly made their own trademark of success through the years. They've also a established a strong connection with their fan base who acknowledge them for their soothing sonority and punk-like attitude. I recommend listening to them if you're into warm-hearted bands or soft alternative punk (i.e. Death Cab For Cutie, Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer or even Bon Jovi).

Not bad, Andy. You have definite potential as a writer, but you also tend to over-write a little. Usually, the simplest way to state something is the best way. Take this sentence:
ReplyDeleteTheir self titled debut EP released in 2001, was loved by new coming fans mainly because of the song Art Star which became popular because of its mixed emotions and brash lyrics, that I think is worth listening to, and following the catchy "doo-doo-de-doo"s in between.
See how long that is? By breaking it up into two sentences, you'd clarify your ideas and give your reader less info to digest at once. It's like cutting your food into bite-sized pieces, Andy. Also, make your next entry more commentary based, and leave the bio of the band to a minimum.
I like the visual layout of the page, too.
I have to say, I used a smooth style when talking about this, but I just realized that that kind of commentary isn't the real commentary needed, I noticed that I should add more expressive commentary, and try to shorten my sentences, but of course, if I do that then that means I might as well lengthen the paragraphs into a. lot. more...
ReplyDeleteAnd of course there's the all-knowing a-b-c button at the top of your edit post thing to fix SPELLING not grammar, except for names and brands that are obviously spelled correctly but aren't mentioned in the spelling database of spellcheck, or you can just(As Mr. Bailey suggested) select all (Ctrl + A),copy (Ctrl + C) and paste into a word document with (Ctrl + V); that way, you can check spelling AND grammar ;D.
